really?

Well, according to Politico.com and The Huffington Post, David Gregory is getting the MTP gig.

I'll leave the comments to all of you.

David "EPIC FAIL" Gregory. That is all.

On the bright side I can maybe go out for a walk or do something lovely and outdoorsy during that hour now.

I really, really had my heart set on Chuck, and feel like it would've been the right choice for that show's best interest long-term.

No. Just no. I've had enough trouble dealing with the fact that VCT was abandoning me like the fickle lover she is, and now, I've been tempted back with the dirty tease of an update to find that David "Monkey Face and Just for the Hell of it Do My Best Joe Scarborough Impression and Interrupt the Holy Hottness Out of Rachel Maddow" Gregory will be taking the helm of MTP.

Why? It didn't even have to go to Chuck. I understand if they feel he needs a few more years under his belt but why Gregory?

I would have preferred Andrea Mitchel or Mika Brazinkski(SP?)Someone with some charm, real credibility, respect, and who doesn't hurt me by being in my line of vision.

I was saddened when I realized 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue/Race the the White House wasn't going anywhere because that was an entire block of news I had to ignore because of D.G. Now I lose MTP. I'm sorry, I'm pissed.

When I saw the news, I came straight here because I knew VCT couldn't sit this one out! Glad I was right.

"Epic Fail" was the first phrase that occurred to me as well. Color me disappointed.

On the other hand, MTP is a seriously 20th century venue, and CT made a name for himself as a new media guy. So let's toast to newer, better things to come.

Frankly I think he should forget MTP and go for a juiced-up, long-form version of the HotlineTV stuff. That's more CT's style anyway.

NOOOOOOOO! Chuck Todd is the man NBC, what are you doing! Can you really see Gregory holding up a white board saying "Florida, Florida, Florida"? No. That IS Chuck Todd today! Sure, nobody can really fill Russert's shoes...but Todd gets a lot closer.

I don't see Daivd Gregory lasting long at the MTP gig. He can't keep his ego in check.

Gwen Ifil and Chuck Todd were my dream team. I could also accept Andrea Mitchell filling in and even Joe Scarborough.

I love me some Chuck. Don't doubt it.

However, I totally see Gregory fitting this role. I think that I would have to heartily agree with Hilary's assessment: '...MTP is a seriously 20th century venue, and CT made a name for himself as a new media guy. So let's toast to newer, better things to come.'

Indeed.

Also, to Joy's thought -- while I enjoy Joe Scarborough -- he would have been a terrible pick for MTP. He is ALL opinion and very little moderation.

MTP needs a moderator -- and while NOBODY ON THE PLANET EARTH will be able to replace our beloved Russert -- I think DGregory is up-to-the-task.

For now...

Snoochie-boochies.

glad to see i'm not the only one with a permanent scowl at this news. david gregory? seriously??

so does this mean they're scrapping the fail boat that is "1600 pennsylvania avenue"? could they maybe give someone else a show during that time slot? could you imagine weekday evenings with 4 hours of relatively delicious awesome, if they were to sandwich in matthews and olbermann with the sweet white bread that is rachel's show at 9 and what could be Chuck's show at 6...?

oh well...one more hour i won't be spending in front of the telly, so maybe they're doing me a favor...

if the time slot is open and it goes back to Tucker Carlson i will boycott MSNBC. If it goes to David Schuster on the other hand i will propose to MSNBC. that would be the greatest lineup ever.

I just read the news on TV Newser and just HAD to check VCT. You didn't let me down. Thank the Lord there are others out there like me. Please, not DG. Snoozer. The Chuck is the wave of the future. MTP needs to catch the wave. I have no doubt it's what The Tim would want.

I thought David Gregory was a top notch WH Press Corps reporter, and well on his way to being the next Woodward and Bernstein (as far as TV media is concerned). Sadly, he is NOT a television personality. The reason why Hardball, Countdown, and yes, even MTP worked is because of the personalities that make up the show. DG is just not one of those guys. I think that NBC is picking him because he's young, has some street cred, and would look at home on the cover of Tiger Beat.

On the same token, The Chuck (Peace Be Unto The Chuck) is not ready either. That doesn't mean that he won't ever be. I feel that all The Chuck needs is to spend some more time on MJ and even Rachel Maddow and he will learn to loosen up and even make the camera work for him. I think that Andrea Mitchell would have made a better choice, and working with The Chuck, would have brought him along.

I dont even understand how Gregory seems more qualified than the Chuck to anyone.
